After 36 some years of baking up his weekly risky biscuits, radio DJ extraordinaire Don Darue spits in the skillet and hangs it up on the wall alongside his spurs and worn out chaps. One of the best, most natural radio personalities to ever hit the airwaves, we wish Don and his beautiful wife Tracy and their kids Lucy and Dash loads of happy sunrises and sunsets as they ride into the future.

It’s my guess that while the Hayseed Hoot moves into the history books, we haven’t heard Don’s dulcet tones on the airwaves for the last time. Who knows. You can follow Don on Facebook and at least for a while on his website at hootradio.net where you can also pick up some mighty spiffy ‘Range Wear’ and other merch.

Among the admirers of Gatemouth Brown’s extraordinary talent were Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Carlos Santana, and Frank Zappa. Zappa repeatedly praised Brown’s ability to “do more with a guitar than a monkey with a peanut,” a quote from Lonnie Brooks that Zappa endorsed. Despite his immense talent, Gate was largely shunned by commercial radio. Jiveradio is obviously making up for that loss. Gate’s catalog ranges through the Blues, Cajun, Zydeco, Swing, Jazz and Big Band, and we play it all.

We were fortunate enough to present Gate and his band ‘Gates Express’ three times in the Reno Nevada area.
